Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is the key element of my therapy practice, so let’s talk about what that means.

What Is Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain resolve painful or difficult experiences, so they stop overwhelming you.

Using a technique called bilateral stimulation (audio tones or eye movements), EMDR activates the parts of your brain responsible for memory and healing—helping you make sense of difficult memories. The result? Multiple clinical trials have shown that EMDR can significantly reduce the emotional distress caused by traumatic memories, often more so than traditional talk therapy.

You can move forward feeling lighter and freer: a phoenix rising from the ashes.

  • Trauma (big T or little t)

  • PTSD and complex PTSD (CPTSD)

  • Childhood emotional neglect

  • Trauma-related anxiety or panic

  • Low self-worth or shame

  • Relationship patterns tied to past hurt

  • Trauma aspects of Borderline Personality Disorder

  • Sexual assault, domestic violence, or emotional abuse

  • Dealing with memories that still bother you

What EMDR Can Help With

  • If you can’t let go of trauma

  • If you feel stuck in your patterns

  • If you’ve been to talk therapy before but feel like nothing really changed

  • If you’re tired of coping skills that don’t touch the root

  • If you’re ready to let go of what’s weighing you down

…then EMDR might be right for you.

Is EMDR Right For You?

What to Expect in an EMDR Session

Before any of my clients start EMDR, I always reserve a few sessions so we can get to know one another, learn some coping skills, and develop a mutual understanding of safety and security.

Sessions are 53–60 minutes and start with a quick check-in to talk about the week’s difficulties, triumphs, and updates.

If we’re working on a memory we haven’t discussed previously, we’ll fill out a brief template—you'll give me a brief description of the event, but no need to go into detail.

Then we’ll begin EMDR using one or more forms of bilateral stimulation (uniquely chosen for you), with short sets and gentle guidance throughout.

Every session ends with grounding. I’ll make sure you leave feeling supported, not overwhelmed.
